I would like to thank everyone who reached out in regards to the potential league change. Everyone that USD 271 has heard from has excellent points both for the change and worries about a change. This post will share some of the questions that came up from our community members.
These photos show our upcoming student projections, which indicates that our student population is currently not looking to grow throughout the next 5-10 years. USD 271 also wants to ensure we have spectators at our games. To help ensure this is able to happen, we will offer a pep bus for our games that are further out for students and community members, when possible. We will also be fortunate enough to be on the rotating list to host League tournaments. While I understand any change is worrisome it can also be exciting. Thank you all for sharing the strengths of a potential move as well. I know that this move has been considered by many patrons well before my time with USD 271. Regardless of a change now, later, or staying with where we are, I look forward to being with USD 271 for many years and supporting our students and getting to know them as individuals.
Sincerely,
Sarah Armstrong

Tiger Enterprises is selling Powerlifting Shirts. If you would like one, send an email to: bbasart@usd271.com, or there are forms in the weight room and in the HS office. Please have orders in by March 21st if interested.

Schools across Kansas are giving a survey to students in 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade called, Kansas Communities That Care Student Survey. Within the survey it asks questions about the use of alcohol, vaping, marijuana, and mediations taken without a prescription. While Rooks county percentages are not high, we want to bring an understanding of the consequences of today's party culture, the toxic risks of combining prescription drugs with alcohol, and understanding your responsibility to act if you think someone is at risk. Rooks County Schools and Health Department would like to invite you to see the film "If They Had Known" to bring awareness and spark discussion around these topics.
Rooks County Schools will be showing this documentary to our high school students after these community showings in March. We hope by showing our parents and community members first it can lead to honest and open conversations at home. We look forward to seeing you at these Rooks County events.

The SHS Seniors visited the Lecompton Historic Museum and the Dole Institute to learn about the origins of our Kansas government and the impact citizens can make in their government.

On March 8th our 3rd and 4th graders attended the Rooks County Ag Safety Event at the Rooks County Fairgrounds.
We attended sessions about electrical safety, vaping, EMS/fire safety, firearm safety, poison safety, seatbelts and texting, and ATV safety.

Our Stockton Public Librarian, Chris Sander, was our opening book reader to kick off Seuss Week for PreK-2!
Each day the classes will have a dress up theme and engaging activities with a book! Tuesday was “hat” day for Cat in the Hat! Thank you Chris! #TigerPride271
