Special Education at Stockton
We know how challenging it can be for parents to find resources to help their children with special needs succeed in school. We also know that there are so many rights, rules, regulations, forms, and jargon, it can be intimidating for parents and difficult to understand everything that is going on. That’s why we created this page.

- Behavior consultation & supports
- Vision/hearing services
- Transition planning for college, career, and independent living
We are committed to providing services in the least restrictive environment (LRE) possible, even including students in general education settings when appropriate.
Child Find
Under federal and state law, Stockton USD #271 identifies, locates, and evaluates children from birth through age 21 who may need special education services through a process called Child Find.
Children can be referred for evaluation by parents, teachers, doctors, and childcare providers. Most children are referred for:
- Developmental delays in speech, language, or motor skills (usually noticed from birth to age 5);
- Academic, social-emotional, or behavioral difficulties that persist despite interventions (usually only applies to school-age children); and
- Physical, cognitive, or emotional needs that could affect learning.
If you would like to refer a child for evaluation, please contact NCKSEC. Specialists there will guide you through the referral process.
