Community Groups
Our district was asked, “What is the one thing, that if we don’t include in our redesign, nothing else matters,” Relationships was always the answer! Every day our students PreK-7 meet for 30 minute sessions, (this includes transition time) with a community of students of 15-17 students. Each community is led by two staff members who are passionately building relationships and discussing essential skills for the future to be “Tiger Ready!” During this time, communities form a close bond to each other and study skills such as our Tiger Touchstones (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Creativity, and Confidence). We also study the Habits of Mind, practice mindfulness, participate in service projects, and also find time to have fun and play. Our goal is for all of our students to have at least one trusted and caring adult they can rely on as they go about their years in our building. Our students love this time each day and each group has something special they have knitted together with joys, celebrations, struggles, challenges, and most of all a sense of belonging.
Once a month our community groups get together with a high school group to do a special activity and get to know each other better. The high school communities meet twice daily. They start and end their day together. There focus is on gratitude, goal setting, team building, individual plans of study, and other information focused on the high school learner.

We had a surprise visit from staff members and residents from the Solomon Valley Manor today! They presented us with school supplies! We ❤️ our community relationships. Thank you! They enjoyed a tour of the grade school. #TigerPride271 #civicengagement @ksderedesign

Family Engagement
One of our three goals of redesign focuses on family engagement. Our planned focus for the 2018-2019 school year included a parent night for each quarter of the school year. We continued our monthly read aloud evenings focusing on our birth-six year audience. You will also see us at the Rooks County Free Fair again this year! #TigerPride271

The Burgers, Band, and Buckets Concert (band students in grades 5-12) that was scheduled for Sunday, May 5th will not be taking place. Thank you for all your support in years past for this fundraiser
