Our 8th graders competed in the Rooks Co. Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. Each one of them stepped up to the challenge of creating an innovative business! They wrote business plans and practiced public speaking skills at the tradeshow. The group received two Ready-To-Go awards, Best Use of Technology award, and one team placed 2nd overall. We are proud of our students and how they represented Stockton Grade School. Thank you to Rooks Co. Economic Development for hosting this incredible event! #TigerPride271

From January 29th to February 23rd, classrooms across Kansas participated in IXL's Sunflower State Sprint competition to see who could answer the most questions correctly. We are excited to announce that SHS Sophomore English class took 1st place out of all the Kansas high schools that participated! These students worked hard to beat some very large classes. 💙🐅

SGS fourth graders have been studying energy in Science class. On Friday, February 23, the class walked across the street to the Stockton power plant where they were greeted by Jeff Scott. The students were duly impressed by the giant yellow Caterpillar generator as they walked in the door. Jeff patiently answered a myriad of questions about the generators, the town's power grid, how the generators are fueled etc. He even let the children try on the sound cancelling speaker headsets that the crew uses when the generators are running. The class loved the soundproof room in the middle of the plant too. All in all it was a very successful learning experience for the children. The class returned to school to collaborate on an article for the Sentinel about the power plant. Next time the power goes out in Stockton, they will have a new appreciation for how quickly we get power back on. Soon, you will be able to see a display of projects, made by the fourth graders, about renewable and nonrenewable energy sources and how they affect our lives, made by the fourth graders, in the windows of the USD 271 district office.
