On Thursday the SHS Chemistry students toured the ethanol production facility at Western Plains Energy, LLC in Oakley KS. The tour is sponsored by the Kansas Corn Commission for students to learn about the ethanol from corn industry in Kansas. The facility produces over 50 million gallons of ethanol a year for gasoline. The students also learned about employment opportunities associated with ethanol production.

The SGS fourth graders wrote letters to veterans deployed to Iraq for Veteran's Day. It was a long wait, but we got a response. Major Nathan Weiss wrote back. The class was so excited when they saw the military postmark on the envelope. To think that it came all that way! It is nice to know that we did a little something to encourage our troops who are far from home and in harm’s way. #TigerPride271

The survey below is being distributed to the USD 271 Community. The playground at SGS has not had any major updates, other than donations from other organizations/entities, since it was established in 1994. This initial assessment will provide our Outdoor Learning/Playground Committee with direction as we move forward. We thank you for your time.
